Under 13's

On behalf of my fellow League officers, may I extend a very warm welcome to all players, managers and supporters attending today’s League Cup Finals. I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys the occasion, and that – win or lose – you all leave after today’s match with good memories of an enjoyable and entertaining game.

I would like to congratulate both teams on reaching today’s final. For some this may well be the first, and possibly the only, final they appear in during their football careers. I hope that the players enjoy the excitement of the occasion and look back afterwards with pride at their performance.

It would be remiss of me not to take this opportunity to thank our match officials and congratulate them on their appointment to today’s match. As a league, we are extremely grateful to all the referees who officiate at our matches throughout the season. Without them the League would not be able to run as it does. Sadly, there are often insufficient “black-shirts” to cover all the matches taking place each weekend., so if anyone here today would like to know a little more about becoming a qualified referee, please do read the article later in this program.

Rother League has signed up to the Football Association’s “RESPECT” campaign. Loyally accepting the decisions of the match officials is a key element of this campaign. I do understand that this is not always the easiest of things to do. Football is a passionate and emotive sport, but life is all about learning that things do not always go the way we choose. I trust everyone here today will be appropriately ‘respectful’.

So, please enjoy the match and encourage all players. Cheer the winners, applaud the runners-ups,
Finally, a big thankyou to our league sponsors Forestheath Engineering LTD
Have a safe journey home.

Zak Overfield
Chairman
Rother Youth Football League

I hope this Programme commemorating the final of this season’s Under 13 Top Flight Cup competition is a nice keepsake for you to treasure in years to come. Fingers crossed that the weather, for today at least, stays fine!
I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank everyone connected with Westfield FC for providing the facilities here today. I’m sure that the surroundings, together with the support of the crowd, will lead to all the players having a day to remember and treasure. After all, that is really all that matters.

I’d also like to give my wholehearted congratulations to both Fairwarp U13 and SC Pass Move U13 Green on getting through to today’s final.

Cup football, at all levels of the game, is often more exciting simply because of the ‘sudden death’ element. A team can afford to slip up once or twice over the course of the season when playing for its league place, but you obviously don’t have that luxury in a knockout tournament competition format. However, the Rother League prides itself on being regarded as a sporting League, where the F in Football stands for FUN! Today, although there are trophies at stake, I trust that this philosophy will continue to be maintained by everyone here.

These occasions should never pass without a huge vote of thanks to those who have made this Cup Final possible. I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the Match Referee and Assistants, who turn up, week in and week out, often suffering torrents of rain (and even, sadly, occasional abuse). They are the unsung heroes of youth football, and I trust you will all show your gratitude to them at the end of the match and your respect for them during the game.

Thanks also go to the various Committee members who run the League and give up large chunks of their personal time (without pay!) to ensure there is a local Youth League to take part in every weekend and Cups to compete for.

Finally, my thanks go to you, the players, parents, supporters, managers and other Club Officials who make all this possible. I do hope that, whatever the result, you enjoy your special day and that the game is played in the spirit in which it is intended.

Nigel Morris
League Secretary

Today’s game…

We will be playing 35 minutes each way today, and obviously there must be a winner as it is a Cup Final.

So if the score at the end of normal time is level, extra time of 10 minutes each way will be played.

If the match is still level at the end of extra time then the outcome will be decided by the taking of penalty kicks, in accordance with the Laws of the game.

At the end of the game the match officials will receive a small memento to thank them for their efforts. Trophies are then given out to the runners-up, followed by the winners.

Substitutions…

The Rules of the Rother Youth Football League allow for ‘roll-on, roll-off’ substitutions. This means that a player who has been substituted becomes a substitute himself and can come back on again at a later stage in the game.

The road to Wembley…(kind of!)

Away Team

Meet the players...

SC Pass Move U13 Green

1. Ethan Green
Became our new number 1 at the start of the year after losing our original keeper. Ethan has settled straight into the team and immediately has shown us what he’s capable of as well as installing a lot of confidence within the team with his vocals as well as his massive saves! We’re delighted to have Ethan with us!

2. Roman Gorridge.
Right back by trade now after spells as a striker and goalkeeper. Roman is a very diverse player who gives 100%. The second half of this season he has been in the form of he’s life! Fantastic tackling whilst being calm on the ball in possession. Everything we want from
A defender

3. Henry Murray
Our mini Stuart Pearce ! Henry is an old school Left back full of tenacity. He’s great at winning the ball and can be a wingers nightmare. Henry has developed key partnerships and gives our forward players confidence to push forwards.

4. Isaac (Iźco) Cornielus-Scott
Our team captain. Leads by example both on the pitch and in training. Believe it or not he used to be a winger. Moved to centre back 2 seasons ago and hasn’t looked back since. He’s quick, strong, great in the air, can pass, dribble, the list goes on! Iźco is a valuable player to us and a very important to our playing style

5. Billy Haines.
A defensive midfielder with an eye for stopping the opposition. Billy reads the game so well, he’s positioning and understanding of he’s role is superb. Billy loves to get “stuck in” and thrives on doing the dirty work in midfield. A very unselfish role that’s important to the team.

6. Jakey Chantler
Jakey re-signed for us this season from Hastings Udt and has settled straight into the team. A all rounder of a centre midfielder. Jakey can adapt to what ever role we give him and gives everything for the team. He’s great in tight areas and has an eye for forward passes.

7.Franklin (Franko) Wright.
A classic old school winger by trade but also very versatile across the pitch. Franko has stood into different positions over the season for cover, but by far his specialties are dribbling at his full back, being direct and getting crosses into the box. His fitness keeps him running up and down all game. He’s played a massive role this season with his many assists.

8. Harley Jamison
A comfortable player on the ball who can make the game look easy at times. Harley has great potential, he’s vision for a forward passes is fantastic and can unlock any defence on he’s day. Harley has a great range of passing but can also challenge to win back possession, again another important player.

9.Romario (Marmo) Russel
A defenders nightmare! A complete centre forward who can run in behind as well as play with his back to goal. Marmo has scored some belters this season. His hard work and aggression gets him goals! Marmo is always looking to improve, asking for ways he can improve. He’s a pleasure to coach.

10. Isaac (Iso) Narine
Big powerful striker with a rocket of a left foot. Iso can be unplayable on his day and has scored a bag full of goals this season. He’s our version of Erling Haaland!

11. Frankie (FSP) Shiekds-Pain
A left footed trickster! FSP has incredible quick feet and can beat anyone in a 1v1. Frankie plays mainly on the left for us, he’s dribbling can really cause all sorts of problems but what he’s really improved on this season is he’s defensive work and helping his teammates. Another lad with great fitness who can run all game.

12. Montgomery (Monty) Gudgeon
Another very versatile player you can play in centre midfield but also at full back. Monty is probably one of our most technically gifted players with a ball. He has really neat footwork and is comfortable with the ball in possession. Monty has really developed He's ‘off the ball’ game this season but one of his best attributes is communication. He’s a very popular player amongst the boys and always being supportive.

14. Gabriel (Gabe) Lowe
I know I’ve said this a few times now but when I say Gabe is versatile I mean he’s very versatile! Started the season mainly playing centre back and has seen the end of the season as a striker. He can also play full back and on the wing! Gabe is quick strong and has an eye for goal! He’s great in the air and can press the ball all day long. Gabe plays any the team needs him. A very popular lads who’s always cracking the jokes too!

15.Max (Maxi) Beaumont
Max rejoined the team with Jakey in the summer. Maxi is one of the hardest working players in the side. He is relentless! Max mainly plays out wide either left or right but can also drop into midfield. Maxi is a natural finisher too but his work ethic is incredible. He loves taking players on too! A pleasure to coach!

16. Joseph (Jośe) Cornelius
A natural finisher and deadly in front of goal. Jośe is a fox in the box but also his link up play is excellent. Jośe rejoin the club in the summer from Hooe and has been a great addition to the squad. He’s another player with a bag full of goals this season and multiple hat-tricks! Good job we don’t give away the match ball otherwise we’d have none left!

17. Samuel (Sam) Young
A complete midfielder who can cover every blade of grass. He was has a great right foot but also strong in a tackle. Sam has had some big performances this season and been key in big games for us. We’re gutted to be missing him today through injury. Unfortunately he picked up a serious knee injury away to Ringmar. He’ll definitely be missed today!.

A word from the gaffer...

“This will be our 7th season together and it has been another really enjoyable season for both us managers. Our goal this season was to challenge for the league title and get to a cup final. We certainly did challenge for that league title, missing out to our opponents today Fairwarp, who are a very strong side and play some really good football. The lads have grown together a lot over the course off the season. With so many injuries throughout the campaign, we’ve had to adapt our shape and tatics as well as individual players taking on new positions and responsibilities. This has certainly brought the group closer together and has really helped the overall development of these young lads, both on and off the pitch. Whatever happens today we are both immensely proud of these young lads, they’ve deserved this opportunity to create memories.”

“We’d also like to thank all the parents for their full support, letting us get on with trying to give the best possible environment for these boys to play in. Special thanks to the volunteer Lino’s too for helping out on match days and giving us the opportunity to focus on running the team. I know all the boys appreciate your commitment to travelling them around”
